The present article aims at supplying information about public education in the Federal District in the twenties, through the Communications sent by the Mayors to the Town Council. The text has been divided into three parts. In the first we present the source that has been consulted. In the second we give a general view of the Communications, emphasizing the key-note of the different administrations, the situation of public education among the several social services rendered by the government, the type of students and teachers in the public elementary schools. In the third and last part, we end up with a general appreciation of the investigated source and a brief discussion of our research work.
