The author analyzes the importance of considering on one hand written language as a representation of oral language (and not as a code for graphic transcription of sound units), and on the other hand the learning child as an active subject that interacts in a productive way with the object of knowledge. She discusses how only from this perspective - and not from new methods, materials or reading readiness tests - one could.
