The author discusses the question of the uses of written language within the school everyday life, focusing three processes of knowledge acquisition that occur simultaneously: learning of the written language structure, of the school uses of the written language and of other pieces of school knowledge through the written language. She emphasizes the importance of integrating the psychogenetic perspective (referent to the individual process of acquisition of the written system) with the sociogenetic perspective (referent to the historical process of aprehension of the different social uses and meanings of the written language).
