The purpose of this paper is to try to describe two instances within the practice of the so-called "conscientização" in the field of "popular" Education. Through Adult Alphabetization, diferentiated practices were determined by the "conscientização". acccording to the moment in which itwas conceived. It was noted that there is no contradictionbetween the two discussed instances, but that these were only different moments of the same move in search of a more effective work with "popular" groups
