This paper questions the use of dicotomic concepts in the analysis of women's condition, based on the study of women's work at the potteries, in the contryside of São Paulo state. Caracterization of the potteries, describing the forms of production and commercialization of the product. Analysis of the organization and division of labor inside those factories. Finally, it detects the conditions of life and labor of their women workers (oleiras). Through the analysis of the dimensions of time and space, it is stressed that work and family life are not detached, but coincide. In the potteries, the possibility of conciliating domestic and productive activities reveals the particular significance of the productive and reproductive roles of women.
