The majority of intervention programs to prevent a developmental delay of the child are based on controversial assumptions whose acceptance or not have different implications on the strategies which can be adopted by those involved with the developmental fostering of children of low socioeconomic status. This paper includes the analysis of these assumptions and argues why, for whom, when and how intervention should take place.
