SILVA, Nelson do Valle  e  SOUZA, Alberto de Mello e. Um modelo para análise da estratificação educacional no Brasil. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 1986, n.58, pp.49-57. ISSN 0100-1574.

The aim of this article is to take into consideration the effect of social origin on the achieved level of schooling in Brasil. This study uses data from the Household survey year 1976 (PNAD - 76) and presents two advantages over the preceeding studies in the area. First, the logistic specifications of the model permit to isolate the effect of independent variables from modifications occured in the marginal distribution of the variables. This possibility allows a comparison among the coefficients estimed for the considered levels of schooling. The second advantage bears upon the national scope of the sample. However, PNAD-76 has no information about the socalled intervenient variables, in this sense, it does not refer to many factors at work beside schooling opportunities. Nevertheless, it was possible to show the decreasing effect of social origin variables over the chances of school promotion, regardless of eventual standardization of these variables homogenization.
