PELLEGRINI, Ana Maria; BLINDE, Elaine M.  and  GREENDORFER, Susan L.. Fatores determinantes do envolvimento da criança em atividades físicas e esportivas. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 1987, n.60, pp.38-44. ISSN 0100-1574.

To study the sport and physical activity socialization process of children within a social role-social system approach, a fixed-alternative questionaire was administered to 567 children (9 to 12 years old) from three different schools (median-high, median-median and median-low social class) in S. Paulo, SP. Results from multiple regression analysis revealed that, independently of the social class context the model was a better predictor of female involvement with peers, family and opportunity set providing the strongest influence. Differences were observed between boys and girls socialization process as well as among the three social/cultural contexts focus of the present study. These findings are discussed in light of those from previous studies in other countries.
