Resumen

BRUSCHINI, Maria Cristina Aranha  y  AMADO, Tina. Estudos sobre mulher e educação: algumas questões sobre o magistério. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 1988, n.64, pp.4-13. ISSN 0100-1574.

Though teaching is a predominantly feminine occupation - especially elementary school teaching - there seems to be little articulation between research done in the areas of education and women's studies in Brazil. A brief historical appraisal shows how teaching, while becoming a female career, incorporates a deep-seated ideology of women's domesticity and submission. Yet the present review of recent works regarding teacher training and performance, done by the main institutions in the state of São Paulo, shows that knowledge produced through women's studies is seldom incorporated in educational research. At the same time, women’s studies have scarcely been directed to the area of Education. An integration of findings from both fields might have extremely positive results; but in order to bridge this gap it is imperative that teachers, scholars and policy makers give higher priority to the overcoming of gender discrimination.
