This article analyses Brazilian adult education programs based on the results of studies and research done since 1971, when a national program set up by law. The article is part of a broader project of evaluation of post-1970 adult education programs. In addition to describing the main characteristics of public adult education programs the authors point out some solutions for the education of young and adult workers who have not had the chance to attend school at the proper time.
