Resumen

SANTOS, Ediógenes Aragão. Participação, autonomia e co-gestão na escola pública. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 1989, n.68, pp.99-105. ISSN 0100-1574.

The article concerns a mobilization that took place at a public senior high school in São Paulo, in 1983, in a search for collective solutions to the school's daily problems, especially the high level of selectivity present at this school level. The mobilization aimed at overcoming current difficulties in social and educational relations withinthe school. As students and teachers became aware of the inefficiency, inadequacy of educational contents and low quality level of the schooling that was offered, as well as its excessive selectivity, they began to question it. This led to strikes, adjournement of classes, manifestations and to the demand that state educational authorities allow schools a greater degree of independence, participation and self-management. We discuss the limits to mobilization. The concepts of independence, participation and decentralization are restricted to those of a liberal bourgeois democracy, which do not engender forms of action and intervention within social and educational reality.
