A review of Brazilian specialized literature allows an insight on the reasons put forward to justify professional training of the mentally disabled. Most of its content is concerned with persuading public and private agents about economic and social advantages of such training, seldom inquiring about the mentally disabled' own motivations and eventual benefits from such training.
