Abstract

The article analyzes Fernando de Azevedo's narrative construction of the educational movement in Brazil's 20's and 30's (in his A Cultura Brasileira) with the purpose of raising some questions to researchers interested in the History of Brazilian Education. Azevedo's narrative is seen as a discourse practice acting upon a field of struggles and compromise which instantiates a certain historical memory in as much as the author's own position in regard to that field is concerned. The narrative thus obliterates some issues whose relevance the article wants to point out.
