An attempt to evaluate the coverage of nurseries, daycare centers and similar institutions in charge of the 0 to 6 year olds in Brazil faces difficulties linked to the sources of information. Statistics provided by several government agencies share a vagueness in conceptualization of different kinds of care, diverging in methods of data collection, range and period covered, showing discrepancies that barely allow the inference of tendencies of that coverage over the last ten years.
