This article intends to discuss workers-students' perception regarding College courses, which is usually explained as a belief in the social ascension myth. The author, however, uses other explaining sources: the social action subjective motivation and the students self-concept concerning school and job, focusing on the students' awareness regarding the relation between hierarchy, social inequality and social ascension. The latter is discussed from a Weberian point of view and is based on the author's experience as a College teacher.
