This paper offers a brief review of current debate on epistemological matrices underlying different conceptions of science and technology, seeking to bring this debate to the educational field. It presents the results of a survey on current representations of science and technology among students enrolled for the entrance examinations to Catholic University in São Paulo. Results suggest that teaching practices in this field do not seem to provide students a critical approach to science and technology in the light of objective conditions of social existence.
