There has been widespread use of so-called "piagetian tests" with diagnostic purposes. Such "tests" are, in fact, the research task situations developed and described by Piaget and his colleagues all through their works. Though it has become a consensual practice, their use for diagnostic purposes may be controversial when analyzed in terms of the nature and role of these experimental situations in relation to the theory and in the light of evidences from the literature.
