This article examines the historical process and structural patterns in Brazilian educational administration, through the analysis of professional training and the corresponding credentials issued by the educational system, as well as of rules and procedures of introduction into professional world. By drawing on educational laws and on data and information obtained from the Ministry of Education regional office and from higher education institutions in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, it suggests tentative periods for the history of training school administrators in Brazil.
