Abstract

Bearing on an epistemologic approach, this paper discusses the issue of propagation of scientific knowledge by written media. Based on examples from texts aimed at youth and lay people, it points out three trends - to dramatize (or use sensationalism), mystify, and commonplace - in the treatment of scientific information. Taken as generic types, these trends are evaluated as bringing about negative reflects on to the vulgarization of scientific knowledge, seriously affecting the educational function it fulfills nowadays.
