High rates of school failure are observed in all levels of Brazilian public schools, but at two moments are highest: after the first grade (now, after the two grades of Ciclo Básico) and at the end of 5^th grade; the latter, seemingly more serious and complex in urban peripheries, has received lesser attention by research and literature. This paper reports a project developed in a school district in the outskirts of the Great São Paulo, to assess the repertoire of 4^th grade pupils, introduce revision programs, and suggest continuity procedures for the pedagogical work at 5^th grade, discussing the intraschool problems met. Results obtained show relevant improvements in student achievement.
