The article presents comparative data about the current condition of upbringing black and white people, drawing, attention to the precariousness of black students and the black population on this issue. At a second stage, it discusses the reaction of the black movement when facing the problem, and, in special, the emphasis given to reinforcingthe ethnic identity on the black children. It also attemps to show the configuration that the identity value is taking in different moments of this fight, and how, during this process, the recovering of cultural roots acquires more and more importance. At the end, the article comments on some experiences and proposals of the black movement that were shown in different occasions when they were able to work more closely to the official educacional agencies.
