Abstract

SILVA, Tomaz Tadeu da. New technologies and structural relationship between education and work. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 1993, n.87, pp.20-30. ISSN 0100-1574.

The essay develops a critique of the conceptual framework used in recent investigations on the relationship between the introduction of new technologies in the work process and education. The present essay propose an alternative framework focusing on the structural relationship between education and work. The argument presented here states that those investigations tend to present an overoptimistic view of the modifications brought about by the new technologies into the work process. They also tend to delineate educational reforms based on a liberal suply/demand model. Those researches are also criticized for their essencialist and substantialist view of the modification brought about by the new technologies. The essay tries to develop an alternative framework of analysis, centered on the structural relation between education and work. It is argued that such an analysis would demonstrate that the new technologies do not touch the social division between mental and manual labor.
