Supported by a historic research carried out in a female technical school in Porto Alegre (Southern Brazil), we analyze the upbringing process of young women in the industrial and technical courses given there, from its foundation in 1946 up to 1970. The light ties linking technical anddomestic education are enhanced, showing the domestic world as an axis that moved all the educational process. We analyze written and verbal documental sources based on historical and sociological references, trying to understand how and why the "domestic knowledge" was transmitted through schooling. We call "domestic knowledge" the know-how, the abilities and the attitudes involved in making the housewife.
