GONCALVES, Maria Elisa Rezende  y  CARVALHO, Anna Maria Pessoa de. Knowledge of the physical in the first through fourth grades: the submarine. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 1994, n.90, pp.72-80. ISSN 0100-1574.

In this paper we investigate how students begin to build the physical knowledge in the classroom, in the context of science teaching the first four grades of 1st grade. To do this, planned and tested an activity for 2nd grade. The fluctuation is the main concept involved in physical activity. The problem we have proposed to the students was to get a submarine sink and float. The aim of the experiment is to make students engage in research work; solve the problem through its own action and to carry out causal relationships. The activity was videotaped. We observed that the action of the students during the trial goes through several stages. At first they act to know the "submarine", then act to get him the reaction they want. The following are actions to be aware of how the effects were achieved and, finally, to explain the causes.
