To study the construction of the knowledge a teacher has of teaching, this article addresses some questions on theory and methodology related to the study of the building of knowledge in general. It examines, in particular, the concepts of "knowing", "knowledge", and "representation", as well as the reciprocal relations that they establish. The supposition that orients this view is that the building of knowledge, like that of subjectivity itself, is an offschoot of social matrixes, mediated by culture and language, which come to the person as images. In this intermediation, experiencing and that experienced are of vital importance and, in the case of the teacher, school culture gains relevance, especially in the relations he/she establishes with the students.
