Abstract

MOHR, Adriana. Health in the school: analysis of first through fourth grade text-books. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 1995, n.94, pp.50-57. ISSN 0100-1574.

Three collections of the most widely PNLD-distributed text-books (1st through 4th grades) in the State of Rio de Janeiro in 1991 were analyzed, in order to evaluate the Health-Program´s content. We detected and quantified inadequacies, and deficiencies in the correction of its content, methodologies, and illustrations. The dogmatic style used throughout the texts jeopardizes the true objectives of a health teaching program. It also strengthens prejudices and unwarranted fears concerning diseases and contact with sick persons. They also fail in the corrects presentation and characterization of risk situations. In view of the importance of the PNLD (National Plan for Textbooks) in the present educational scene, some recommendations towards its improvement and proper implementation are made.
