Abstract

GALVAO, Izabel. The issue of moviment in daily life of a pre-school. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 1996, n.98, pp.37-49. ISSN 0100-1574.

This article reports on research carried out in a pre-school in São Paulo. The initial aim of the study was to discuss the appropriateness of the demands and proposals of the school environment to the psychomotor capabilities of sixyear old children. The methodology was inspired in an ethnographic perspective, and had recourse mainly to direct observation of daily school life. As a theoretical reference for the collection and analysis of data we used the genetic psychology of Henri Wallon. The day to day observations at the pre-school revealed an atmospheres of conflits and tension in the interactions between teachers and students -- turbulence and motor impulsivity on the students' part and reprimands and warnings by the meant to contain the students' movements. Showing overlapping interrelations on planes in the school environment and the dynamics of social interactions that are established there, this study suggests that an understanding of child movement as well as the space devoted to it daily school life be reviewed.
