Resumen

MORAES, Silvia Elizabeth Miranda de. The dialectical construction of a teaching curriculum in the international environment. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 1997, n.102, pp.134-156. ISSN 0100-1574.

This study analyzes the International Baccallaureate (IB), a high school curriculum developed by 553 international schools in 75 countries. I used the constructivist methodology based on the dialectic-hermeneutic circle (Guba, Lincoln, 1989). The issues approached in the research were: the role of the international school in the world and Brazilian scenery; the relationship between the school and the market; how the categories internationalism/regionalism, flexibility/continuity, ideology/culture/cultural identity are operated in the curriculum. It was concluded that the tension among such categories favors the dialectic construction of the curriculum by helping to create conditions for an ideal speech situation (Habermas, 1991); that the dependence on the local and international market should be neutralized so that the curriculum can have a more autonomous philosophical perspective; and that, although the curriculum is ideologically inserted in the western capitalist society, it offers an escape to the man´s unidimensionality by means of its cultural component.
