Abstract

RECIO, Rosa Vázquez; CALVO-GARCIA, Guadalupe  and  LOPEZ-GIL, Mónica. SCHOOL DROPOUT FROM AN INTERSECTIONALITY PERSPECTIVE: GENDER DISTINGUISHES DIFFERENCES. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 2022, vol.52, e08553.  Epub Mar 30, 2022. ISSN 1980-5314.  https://doi.org/10.1590/198053148553.

The present study addresses school dropout, a topic of interest at national and international levels. This construct responds to ways of understanding excellence within hierarchies (social, educational or cultural). We are interested in its analysis, based on an intersectional aspect in which gender certainly plays a key role. The analysis is based on qualitative research conducted using semi-structured interviews with 18 girls, aged 12 to 16 years, born in Cádiz (Spain), who dropped out of school. Nvivo11 was applied to the processing of the data. The young participants show that gender is significant: the responsibility for care, or stereotyped roles, among other elements, are the reasons for dropping out.

Keywords : DROPOUT; GENDER RELATIONS; INTERSECTIONALITY; QUALITATIVE RESEARCH.
