The recognition of children’s voices was assured more than 30 years ago, and the notion of the patient as a transformative agent emerged over 25 years ago. Nevertheless, research in education and health, by focusing on the voices of adults, has left an epistemological void concerning the experiences lived by children and their experiential knowledge. This article addresses epistemological and ethical principles that guide research methodologies involving narratives of hospitalized children, and the care taken to avoid epistemic and hermeneutic injustices in the analyses. It concludes by highlighting an ongoing (r)evolution in the ethical care of listening to what children have to say about their ways of existing and living with a chronic illness, in order to value their contributions to research and professional training in education and health in a hospital context.
