Abstract

HERNANDEZ, Fernando. De qué hablamos cuando hablamos de cultura visual?. Educ. Real. [online]. 2005, vol.30, n.02, pp.09-34. ISSN 0100-3143.

Visual culture as a concept and field of studies offers a series of theoretical and methodological frames to rethink the role of present and past visual representations and subjects’ positions as viewers. In this article some approaches to this field of studies are explored, focusing especially on the genesis of the given problems and their potential consequences in order to construct a new educational narrative. This narrative reviews the hegemonic discourses around visual representations and balances subjective positions that have traditionally been subordinated in reading approaches centred on the content of images.

Keywords : Visual Culture; Visual Arts Education; New Art History; Technologies of Gazing; Representation.
