This article discusses the city as an educational possibility, strengthening the role of image reading in school. Using as a reference the city of Antônio Prado, RS, listed by the National Historic and Artistic Heritage Institute of Brazil (IPHAN), this article proposes a reading of the city where the children and teenagers live as an inroad to the understanding and preserving not only of the architectural heritage, but also life, with the objective of building a less predatory, more critical, sensitive and loving future. In this discussion the author also examines the conception of city since Athens and how the relationship between human bodies and urban spaces takes place in the present time through daily actions such as dwelling, walking and talking.
