Abstract

This paper is the result of a compared study, developed in ten public school located in the state of São Paulo, in which one expected to find quality night shift High School. For the selection of the investigated cases we took into account indicators developed under the scope of the research financed by the Brazilian Ministry of Education and UNESCO entitled High School: experiences in public school’s (2005). From the analysis of the data collected through questionnaires addressed to professionals and students of the night shift of each school, coupled with field study, institutional characteristics and exterior school factors were presented; in the opinion of students and professionals these constitute evidence of the quality of the school. Among these, some stand out: curriculum flexibility, leadership of the school administration, an environment conducive to dialogue between school professionals and students, and positive expectation of students’ future. Such factors corroborate previous studies.
