This article aims at analyzing the observation in investigation processes. It has not started from the idea of observation as a phenomenon that is evident in the field of research, but as a problem in the very field of research, since this is constituted as different practices - records, laws, norms, examinations, warnings, etc. - which produce certain forms of truth. Observation has been problematized through the use of a literary text - Palomar on the beach: reading a wave -, written by Italo Calvino. From this exercise, we have attempted to situate the field of research in a creation order, i.e. as a work of art that also creates concepts.
