Over the decades of its history, professional education and youth and adult education (YAE) have gone through difficult and troubled paths. In this sense, the holding of the Fifth International Conference on Adult Education, Confintea V, Hamburg, Germany, in 1997, contributed with a broader concept of adult education, highlighting the relationship between education and work; the integration between technical and professional qualifications as an important element for the subject’s participation in the production of society’s goods as well as individual needs. This article discusses the relationship between adult education and work and education in the process of professional education, raising possibilities of integration between the areas above mentioned questioning the points of confluence between such areas and the possible difficulties and possibilities in meeting the challenge of such integration. This is essential for a comprehensive training of young working subjects.
