Abstract

The article analyses the reform of the curricula of seven undergraduate programs in teacher education of the Federal University of Pelotas (UFPel), motivated by the new official Guidelines for Teacher Education in Brazil, using document analysis and a set of 16 interviews from people involved with this process in the University. Having as referencial studies the field of curricular policy and the foucauldian notion of power-knowledge, the study highlights the correlation of forces and the material and symbolic disputes that acted in the reform and influenced the curriculum design. The study concludes that the construction of the policy in the studied context had contradictory effects, implying a movement of homogenization and differentiation of the curricula and the advancement of an pragmatist trend in teacher education.
