Abstract

Assuming that historical consciousness is a phenomenon whose structure refers to the whole humanity in different times and places, this text aims to approach the subject considering its relation to education, especially the fields of history learning, at schools and outside them. It intends to discuss the methodological possibilities of the research on historical consciousness at different institutional spaces. Quantitative and qualitative methodologies are analyzed, including intercultural quantitative surveys, questionnaires based on the decisional component of historical consciousness and on Jörn Rüsen’s structure of production of historical meaning, interviews with different individuals and the utilization of the focus group method and of the theory of social representations.
