Abstract

MONTEIRO, Ana Maria Ferreira da Costa  and  PENNA, Fernando de Araujo. History teaching: frontier knowledge. Educ. Real. [online]. 2011, vol.36, n.01, pp.191-211. ISSN 0100-3143.

This paper discusses the theoretical and methodological foundations of a research on the relation between teacher knowledge and school knowledge in narratives produced in school History. Contributions from the fields of Curriculum and Didactics were articulated with those of History and Rhetoric, once we consider that the research in History teaching takes place in a frontier field, where knowledge is created as a result from dialogues, interactions and the recognition of difference among them. In the analyzed explanations, the teachers used comparisons, analogies, examples, illustrations, metaphors to negotiate the distance between the students' knowledge and that which was taught, in the process of production and attribution of meanings to school knowledge.

Keywords : History Teaching; Frontier; Curriculum; Teacher Knowledge; Rhetoric.
