Abstract

POLIDORI, Marlis Morosini; RETTL, Ana Maria de Mattos; MORAES, Mario Cesar Barreto  and  CASTRO, Maria Cristina Lima de. Policies of evaluation of Brazilian higher education. Educ. Real. [online]. 2011, vol.36, n.01, pp.253-278. ISSN 0100-3143.

The development of the evaluation process in Brazilian higher education is recent due to the fact that its conception was consolidated only in 2004 with the SINAES law implementation. From 2008, different approaches were taken for the development of the system, such as the imposition of indicators in order to create rankings of the best IES (Higher Education Institutes) of the country, using only the ENADE - National Exam of the Students Performance. In this sense, a historical review of the evaluation process in Brazilian higher education is presented as follows, putting evidence to the elements that interfere with the establishment of different policies and finally discussing the current situation with the demonstration of potential referrals in search for an offer of a better higher education in the IES of the country.
