The article deals with the educational research problematic, situating the field and introducing the texts which were selected to the thematic section on Researching Education. It highlights key elements of the contemporary debate about educational research and analyzes the challenges of being a researcher. Finally, it points to the possibility of an ecology of knowledge - as Boaventura de Sousa Santos proposes - being produced by our research efforts.
