Abstract

This article presents a methodological practice of discussion groups, which is analyzed starting from its use in an investigation in education area. It approaches the definition, the history, the theoretical support and the technical propositions of the discussion groups inserted in the Spanish tradition of critical sociology. The presupposal chosen shows that the investigator does in research what reflects his/her conception of science and ethics. This description also present the applications in the doctoral research whose purpose is to investigate the sociability practiced by young people living in the outskirts of Porto Alegre, considering the way they live school and the school insertion through the analyzes of their individual and collective memories.
