Abstract

ALVAREZ-URIA, Fernando. The psychologizing of the Self: materials for a genealogy of inner world’s discovery. Educ. Real. [online]. 2011, vol.36, n.03, pp.911-944. ISSN 0100-3143.

During the first half of the 20th Century a new dimension, a secular inner world, was open inside the Western perspective of the subject. Three major power strings contributed to add density to this psychological self: the individualization process and the importance gained by the ethical subject in the early 20th Century German sociology; the birth and development of psychoanalysis; and finally the formation of a new imaginary of the self through the mediation of literature and art. Since then, this new soul province (Karl Mannheim) has not ceased to grow, to the point of putting into question the own existence of the social world.

Keywords : Individualism; Psychologization; Imaginary of the Self; Psychoanalysis; Psychological Culture.
