This paper reports a case study focused on teaching quality as observed at a Center for Supplemental Education (CES), an educational institution located in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The investigation attempted to identify the concept of quality in education today, the polysemy of meanings covered by the term, the various approaches reported in the relevant literature as well as the meanings it developed throughout the historical process. This was done by means of an analysis of the various practices developed in that space during the diversified movement of dealing with youth and adult subjects, and the relation between such practices and the teaching quality offered.
