Abstract

CORTI, Ana Paula. Secondary Education in São Paulo: the expansion of enrollment in the 1990s. Educ. Real. [online]. 2016, vol.41, n.1, pp.41-68. ISSN 2175-6236.  https://doi.org/10.1590/2175-623655996.

The article addresses the expansion of secondary education in the state of São Paulo, from 1991 to 2003. Exactly in the decade when the policies were focused on Elementary Education, Secondary Education had the longest period of growth. Data on the evolution of enrollment in the four school systems − state, private, municipal and federal − are presented, as well as its distribution across the metropolitan area and the interior of the state. Enrollment rates are also presented by period, by grade and in rural secondary education. Finally, the text points out possibilities of interpretation of the phenomenon.
