SHIROMA, Eneida  y  SCHNEIDER, Mara Cristina. Assessing teacher performance : contradictions of the policy "for the few" in the era of "for all". Rev. Inter Ação [online]. 2013, vol.38, n.1, pp.89-107. ISSN 0101-7136.  https://doi.org/10.5216/ia.v38i1.25131.

Abstract: This paper discusses the political dimension of assessing teacher performance and focuses on its implications for teachers, their formation, work and unions. A documental and bibliographic research was undertaken with a view to understanding the tensions and contradictions of this policy, mainly in the experiences of Latin America and Europe. Performance assessment is a regulatory mechanism based on meritocracy which affects teachers' formation and careers. The assumptions underlying the proposed performance assessment model and the opposition of the teachers' unions to its implementation as a public policy are analyzed.
