Abstract

SILVA, Walkiria Sousa  and  LUNA, José Marcelo Freitas de. The culture of childhood and production of meanings: a study of media reception with children. Rev. Inter Ação [online]. 2014, vol.39, n.3, pp.511-527. ISSN 0101-7136.  https://doi.org/10.5216/ia.v39i3.28759.

With a view to understanding the relationship between children's imaginary and television reception, this study discusses the interactions between Cultures of Childhood and the reception process of children in relation to the SBT Carousel soap opera, aimed at children. This article acknowledges media reception as a process of interaction in which the production of meanings occurs. We observed the participation of elements of the cultures of childhood in the interaction of children with the soap opera as well as the manifestations of the children's imaginary in their productions of meaning. Using discourse analysis as a basis, we present the results of analyses of drawings and reports by children, soap opera fans, interpreted using Sarmento's study of the Cultures of Childhood (2004), as a background.
