The aim of this article is to analyze the daily work of children and adolescents pickers of recyclable materials, guided by the concepts of vulnerability and social exclusion. This is a qualitative study involving major institutional actors involved in social, legal and support actions, and also with a group of children and adolescents and their families in the city of Chapecó, state of Santa Catarina. We conclude that, to collect recyclable material is a form of social integration at the same time, exposes children and adolescents at risk of all kinds, forming processes of vulnerability in these age groups.
