Abstract

GEREMIAS, Bethania Medeiros  and  CASSIANI, Suzani. Technology as a problem in science, technology, and society education: analyses of a reading workshop in science teacher education. Rev. Inter Ação [online]. 2016, vol.41, n.3, pp.743-761. ISSN 0101-7136.  https://doi.org/10.5216/ia.v41i3.41882.

On the basis of a Discursive Perspective in Science, Technology, and Society (STS) Education, we investigated the meanings about technology which were produced during the analysis of an educational animation on the origin and the production of the artefact paper, that was carried out with members of the group Observatório da Educação (Education Observatory) of the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (Federal University of Santa Catarina) (OBEDUFSC - Ciências). In the analysis of the process, we noticed the materialisation, in the research participants' discourse, of questions that were debated during the STS studies, such as: i) problem x technological solution; ii) salvationist x destructive reading of technology; iii) silencing of the STS relations. In short, the research provided elements to problematize and to understand what is being said, but also the silences about technology and its questions. Lastly, it also contributed to think about the development of technological themes in the science teacher education.
