This article aims at analysing the Faculdade Nacional de Filosofia da Universidade do Brasil (presently called UFRJ). The text tries to study the Faculty’s origins from its insertion into the university project after the 30s, to its foundation in 1973, from its former name and immediate rebirth as Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro between the years 1967 and 1968. Following this line of analysis the text tries to demonstrate how processes of concentration of power occurred inside such a sort of institution and how political struggles were carried out during its thirty years of existence. The article also evidences the Faculty both as a place in wick science has been development in various fields and as a space where academic talent and vacations have been stimulated.
