The scope of this paper is to analyze a teacher’s college experience known as “Escola de Aperfeiçoamento”. The objective of such a School was to prepare and retrain an elite of teachers to work at elementary schools in the state of Minas Gerais. The new School conveyed the Government’s standpoint about education, proposed the use of a new methodological approach and presented new viewpoints about children’s education which were based upon the so-colled “Movimento de Escola Nova”. This text tries to retell the story of the mentioned institution, that is, how it was organized, who were its teachers and pupils, what kind of pedagogical ideas and contents it conveyed, what sort of disciplines it intended to create for itself and for the primary schools and finally what schooling attitudes it tried to form in the elementary school practice which was offered by the public primary schools of the State of Minas Gerais.
